I Am Leaving In The Morning For the Land That I Long to See Again

More traveling today. While I am away, immerse yourself in this: "Blackwater," by David Sylvian (in the guise of Raintree Crow). It's easily my favorite Sylvian song. The video is negligible; close your eyes and drink in the music.

Incidentally, the ALA conference at which I spoke was excellent; we had good talks and met quite a few interesting folks. I'll write more about it after I get home.

Ah, proper music. To someone who pretty much owns everything David Sylvian has ever recorded under his own name/Japan/Rain Tree Crow/Nine Horses or various collaborations (not to mention most other stuff the guys from Japan have done), this was a nice surprise. My choice for the best Sylvian tune: Orpheus. Hands down.

Should one wonder though: "Wot? No Journey while journeying?"

A literary occasion with Scalzi, VanderMeer and (apparently) Steven Erikson, although JeffV has trouble writing down his name on his blog, sounds like a fun place to have been.

ALA conference? Did you get to hear/talk to/befriend Siva Vaidhyanathan? He's good peeps.

Ah, Scalzi, you rule yet again!

I love the track. I find this album so wonderful and yet so melancholy and depressing. More from the time in which it came out and where my life was at. Dark days, indeed.

I'll save the video for when I really need it. For now I will enjoy the sunshine and sseashore from my deck.

Oh, and is it me, or would Billie Holiday covering "Brilliant Trees" by Sylvian not be the totality of shizz or what??? I can totally hear it in my head, if only it could come true.

Scalzi proves he's the man of musical taste yet again. I've been a Sylvian devotee ever since Brilliant Trees, which I consider one of the few essentially perfect albums ever released. (It's a short list, including the likes of Kind of Blue, Wish You Were Here, A Love Supreme, Who's Next, Revolver, Close to the Edge, etc.) This is a great track, though my personal choice for favorite would be a tossup between "Orpheus," "Forbidden Colours," "Every Colour You Are," or an obscure favorite from Trees, "Weathered Wall".

My favorite Sylvian is When Poets Dreamed of Angels, although Gone to Earth is one of my favorite CDs of all time.

Although Orpheus is a truly great song.
