Look at the Time

I put in my Call of Duty 2 video game at about 3pm. I look up, and it's midnight.

Time flies when you're killing dirty Nazis.

Try taking over the world. I can kill a weekend easily with Civ. :)

Bah. I totally experience the same thing with Company of Heroes, CounterStrike, the Battlefield series, and Titan Quest.

I have always found it amazing how time sorta speeds up when your brain is in constant synapse-firing mode.

Ever since I quit WoW, I'm amazed at all the free time I have...to play other things. Muhahah.

PixelFish: You're so right. I'm killing the beginnings of the weekend with Civ IV already! I'll get you, Queen Victoria! I'll get yooooou!

I wish I could get anywhere near decent at GalCiv II, though. I always get clobbered.

John: Have you tried F.E.A.R? It has a stupid name. But it's really good.

Now imagine how much more satisfying that is when you work in an office full of Germans.

I remember playing the first one. I bought that and some new CDs on the same day and played the CDs whilst repeatedly running for my life from sniper fire. I remember thinking, those are some awfully short CDs, when they had all played themselves out "an hour later."

OMG you sound just like my husband!!!! He loves to kill Nazi's 'specially early in the morning

Call of Duty 2 is one of the best FPS I have had the pleasure of playing. The winter stages as a Russian infantrymen are terrific. D-Day on COD2 is one of the most thrilling, challenging and memorable video game experiences ever. Are you doing PC or console John? (Enjoying God of War for the PS2 currently.)

ISn't this the time when we chide you about not writing the book we're expecting you to finish so we can read it and proclaim it genius?

And then aren't you s'posed to tell us to go screw?

John Scalzi | June 9, 2007 08:45 AM

Let's just pretend that's what we did.

Well, at least killing Nazis is a noble pursuit, not a waste of time like most video games.

hugh57 | June 9, 2007 10:05 AM

OK, when you go nuts with Photoshop, you're avoiding a book deadline. What are you avoiding when you spend hours on video games?

Just trying to keep your pathologies mapped. ;-)

Ah COD2 - most excellent!

I have played through that several times myself. Wait until you hit "Hill 400" at the end of the game - crazy tough!

I agree with JH above, give FEAR a spin. It's terrific.

I'm just impressed you got away with 9 hours of playing.

I could do that maybe when I was 25 and my wife was out of the house for the weekend. Now, I might get an hour if I was lucky. Hell, I bought HALO for the Mac a couple years ago and I haven't played it once.

You must have a bladder of iron. ;)
