Subterranean Magazine To Press

For those of you wondering when Subterranean Magazine issue #4 would go to press: Today is that day. Even as I type these words, the mighty presses are whirring and clanking and making whatever other noises presses make, and then the copies will be sent to subscribers, people who have purchased single copies, and to the contributors. This doesn't mean it's too late to order your own copy, however. Hey, all the cool kids are doing it.

That cover art is magnificent.

John Scalzi | June 12, 2006 04:18 PM

You can thank Bob Eggleton for it.

Dawn B. | June 12, 2006 05:52 PM

Ordered and thanks for keeping me up to date on this issue.

RooK | June 12, 2006 07:58 PM

While you're pimping, why not show off John Scalzi dancing? (With a wig, no less. Who do you think you're fooling?)

John Scalzi | June 12, 2006 08:07 PM

I wouldn't be caught dead in an Orange Crush shirt.

Dave Klecha | June 12, 2006 09:00 PM

Follow me don't follow me
I've got my spine, I've got my Orange Crush

So, I remember talk of a April/May release for the magazine... Was there a reason for the lag, or do These Things Just Happen?

John Scalzi | June 12, 2006 09:26 PM

I think it's in the latter camp of circumstances.

Patrick Nielsen Hayden | June 12, 2006 09:47 PM

No offense to the other contributors, but from a commercial standpoint, I would definitely have put Scott Westerfeld's name on the cover, and I'm kind of boggled that they didn't.

John Scalzi | June 12, 2006 09:59 PM

"They" would be me in this case, and the reason I didn't is that Scott's contribution -- a collection of SF cliche haikus -- is very short. Very funny and very excellent, mind you. But very short. I didn't want give the suggestion that there was something more there from Scott than there was. And in any event we have award-winners, best-sellers and hot rising writers all represented on the cover. It's a pretty good mix.

Motorcycles just aren't that cool anymore if someone else is riding a dragon.

James Goodman | June 13, 2006 08:02 AM

Ah, man...I just love that cover.

Nick Mamatas | June 13, 2006 05:36 PM

I can't believe there isn't a Veronica Lake-type lady chained to a slab anywhere on that cover.

John Scalzi | June 13, 2006 05:51 PM

You just haven't seen the back cover yet.
