36

js36.jpg

36 today. 35 was largely a good year; I thank it for its service. 36 will hopefully carry on the tradition. Also, now that I am past the midpoint of my 30s, I have to say that it's shaping up to be a damn fine decade. As with last year, I check to see if I have any deep insight into the world to share with you all, and once again the answer is: Well, no, not really. Be nice to each other. Floss. Don't eat that fifth donut. Aside from that, I got nothin'.

I'm taking the rest of the day off; if you want to do the same, that's your call.

Yay! I'm the first to wish you a very very Happy Happy birthday!

Woot! Congrats!

John Scalzi | May 10, 2005 01:21 AM

Well, to be precise, Krissy was the first, at 12:02 am. But you're certainly the first here. And I thank you!

Welcome!

36 is being decent to me so far, but my favorite part is being able to say "36" with a Bugs Bunny accent. (for some reason in Bugs Bunny cartoons whenever there was an arbitrary number called for, it was always "t'oity six")

I'll miss that.

Welcome! I've been here a while and it ain't at all bad. Not as much fun as 23, but hey...what is?

Tony Cullen | May 10, 2005 05:58 AM

You're 36 today? Then we share a birthday! (I'm 42, I can almost remember being 36). Many happy returns to you.

Kevin Q | May 10, 2005 07:06 AM

Happy Birthday! I've still got a couple of years before I hit 36, and it's nice to know that it's possible to still be happy at such an advanced age.

Enjoy the day.

Happy birthday, John. Having just turned 39 only a few days ago, I can honestly say the back end of my 30's has been pretty good to me.

Well, I'm an orphan now, but that would have happened eventually. The rest has been pretty good.

Dave Schaefer | May 10, 2005 08:31 AM

Happy Birthday John! Hope you're around for 36 more ;)

Jon Hansen | May 10, 2005 08:57 AM

Happy birthday, man. Enjoy your day, you lazy lazy man.

Sue | May 10, 2005 08:59 AM

36 isn't too bad. I'm already practicing my "I'm 37. I'm not old." (thank you, Monty Python and the Holy Grail) line for when I turn 37 in exactly one month.

My 30s have been much better than I expected, well, except the whole bit where my mother died and then I moved to Texas. But even the Texas thing isn't too bad, except for July through September. At least the barbecue's good.

Have a happy birthday, John. May 36 be even better for you than 35 was.

Happy Birthday, Old Man.

;)

Hope you have a nice day off and a fabulous year to follow.

Happy birthday! I have you beat by 7 years. I've found that each decade has been better than the one before it, all the way back to the start. My only regret is that it took me until 40 to figure out I wanted to WRITE. There, you have me beat.

Best wishes.

"Happy Birthday, Old Man."

Old man! Why, I oughta...

Damn kids! Get off my lawn!

(grumbles)

Happy birthday.

Joining you at 36 in just a couple of months.

It seems very recent that I thought 36 was middle aged.

JamesG | May 10, 2005 12:36 PM

Happy Birthday!

sam young | May 10, 2005 12:55 PM

happy birthday, john.

Brian Greenberg | May 10, 2005 01:06 PM

Happy Birthday, John.

Don't forget to check off the next "Age Range" box on all of those surveys from now on...

And let's not forget that you've only got 39 years left before you go enlist in the army!

(What? Could happen...)

Carol | May 11, 2005 04:48 PM

Happy Birthday, John! I'm very pleased that your thirties thus far have been kinder to you than they have to me.

(I turned 39 a few weeks ago - I'm almost eager for 40).
