A Brief Moment of Gloating
Why my job is cooler than yours: My copy of the The Animatrix came today -- it's a DVD of 9 animated films based on (and in) the Matrix universe and supervised by the Wachowski Brothers. I'm reviewing it for my DVD column in OPM. I'm going to watch it right now. The rest of you Matrix junkies have to wait for another month. Bwa ha ha ha ha!
(Actually, you can see four of the Animatric shorts from the Web site. See? I'm throwing you a bone, here.)
Don't worry, though. I have to see Matrix Reloaded in the theater on May 15 like a common troll. The DVD gig's influence only goes so far.
Update: Finished watching it. Coooooooooool.
Another Update: Weirdly enough, one of the producers of the Anamatrix is someone I went to high school with: Michael Arias, who was a senior when I was a freshman. He was a very short, very strange kid (as was I, but in different ways. Strange, that is. There's not so many ways to be short). I occasionally wondered what happened to him. Now I know.

Wouldn't both sucking and blowing provide a cancelling out effect, and thereby negate it, for all practical purposes, for use as an insulting epithet?
However, I certain the curse remains in effect.

Nah. If you've seen "Johnny Mnemonic," you've got the gist of it. Heck, it even has the same star!

Really the most important thing you'd miss by watching Johnny instead of the Matrix is: VINYL, lovely vinyl.

Oh my. I seriously hope you were kidding (and no, not the part about the same star), John :)

That was "Final Flight of the Osiris," a short from the Animatrix (Done by Square, the same company that made the Final Fantasy series of games and the abysmal Final Fantasy: The Movie). It and the game Enter the Matrix combine to tell a small side-story that directly relates to one of the plot devices in Matrix: Reloaded.

Hey, that wasn't me that said that!
Dang, I'm gonna have to start using a more unique identifier......
Oh, and back on topic, Ironically, I never saw The Matrix in the movies, and I wish I had. When I heard they were working on sequals, I thought it would be a great idea to re-release the original to theaters, but it appears they did not read my mind and do so. :(
Which means this tin-foil-lined hat must work. :)
BTW, did anyone see the monkey-fight going on over at BillW and FrankJ 's sites? Oh, funny stuff.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for the animatrix url. I think that DVD is going to be purchased for my house when it comes out. And can't wait to see Matrix2 -- in a regular theatre and then on Imax!

_Jon: Depending on what town you live in, some theaters do have The Matrix on the big screen again for a couple of weeks now before M:R hits theaters. It's in Chicago, for instance.

I just saw Animatrix. (Through, umm, the use of MAGIC! Yeah, that's how!) And it's the "Heavy Metal" of the 21st Century!
I don't mean that as a compliment.
What did you think was "cool with multiple Os" about it? Were you stoned?

I don't think it has too much in common with "Heavy Metal" actually. Far few muscular chicks with dirigible breasts in floss bikinis, for one thing.
I liked the different animation styles, I thought the stories were pretty interesting in the context of the Matrix universe, and I have a high tolerance for the logical inconsistencies of animation.
